MEMBERS NEWS

(Above photo: Sensei Suzuki summer course 2007)

July 2010

Important Notice - Please can all members take time to check their licence books to ensure the insurance/licence slips are still in date. If they are due or overdue you need to speak to myself or Russ asap. The licence renewals should be applied for prior to your expiry dates show.

Chinto kata walkthrough drawings should be up on the site in a few weeks just doing the final preps as we speak. Sorry for delay, but as I hand draw these I need to m,ake sure I haven't left anything out.

Sadley one of wado's top instructors passed away last month ue to ill health. I have had the pleasure to train under the instruction of Hiron Fukazawa on several occasions when attending Master Suzuki's training courses, he always had so much he wanted to share with regards to the art of wado. You always came away with stuff to think about and with ways to improve your techniques, especially for me, in kata and understanding of the bunkai. Thank you Sensei Fukazawa, you will definately be missed but never forgotten.

On a lighter note, glad to say that 25 years on and our club is still going strong and attracting new members - thank you to all who attend.

Sunday 25th July 2010 there is a course taking place in Shrewsbury at London Road sports centre 10am til 3pm. Adults 20 GBP, under 16's 15GBP. Please ensure if you are planning on attending you wear a clean white Karate Gi and have your licence book with you as this must be shown and in date. There are four styles of karate in which we will participate in throughout the day;

Max Beddow 4th Dan Okinawan Gojo Karate will give us in insight into KAKIE, the practice of pushing hands. Two people practice to develop the softer side of the Gojo art to feel and experience an opponent reaction, providing an opportunity to apply deflection techniques, grabbing, armbars, wristlocks and take downs.

Peter May 6th Dan J.K.F Wadikai Karate. Peter will give us an insight into the relatioship between Wado and Budo karate. Producing effective impact punching and kicking. The link of Budo practice to kumigata, kihongumite and kata.

James Kessler 5th Degree Balck belt in Taekwondo. He will look at the variations on kicking techniques, focusing on roundhouse and reverse roundhouse kick.

During lunch a Ryukyu Kobudo seminer will take place for those wishing to participate.

All in all should be a good day and I recommend that all our students over the age of 14 years attend the days course.

Due to us attending this course there will be no training session at out club on this date as myself, Russ and we expect most if not all of our adult members to be attending the course. Training at our club will resume as normal the following week, Thursdays class in uneffected. Any questions please email or call me on 07815310315.

--------------------------------------------

Also, just so our club members are aware we are doing private lessons, one to one or two to one, by prior appointment only which will be arranged with myself (Chell). For further information please come and see me or email. These private lessons will be an hour to hour and half long can cover any aspect of the Wado System you wish. These will be charged at 10 pounds per person or 15 pounds for two and all money again as always goes back into the club to cover the clubs running costs, training aids etc.

Michelle, Dave (Shrewsbury Karate), stefan and matthew all stand proudly in the photo above alongside Sensei Dave Allsop, after a recent Dan grading which took place at the Shrewsbury Sports Village on 3rd October 2008. The grading took place under the watchful eye of Sensei Dave Allsop 7th Dan, and Sensei Frank Johnson 4th Dan. As you can see all achived their goal, Michelle and Dave now hold well deserved 2nd Dan. Both Stefan and Matthew have been awarded cadet level 1st Dan grades. Well done everyone, very well trained. Having watched the grading I can confirm it was a very tough 3 hours for them all.
