I would finally like to thank Sensei Frank Johnson for coming over on Sunday and overseeing those of our members who were up for there grading. Jake Weare & Louis Wright who obtained there 6th kyu grade. Also weldone to, Fleur, Jamie, Josh, Andy and David who all gained there 7th Kyu grade. Website - I have out this website together for our club, now I know that you want to see more club photo's and I anm in the process of putting some videos on the site, but if there is anything else you think should be added, then please email your thoughts over to me at telfordwadoryu@aol.com.
October 2007 - Sunday the 28th October, Sensei Frank Johnson will be coming over to our club to over see the gradings for those of our members now ready to grade. Please could everyone ensure they bring there licence/grading books with them as these will be required on the day along with the 20.00 fee. As we have mentioned before members will only be put in for gradings when we as your Instructors feel you are ready, showing enough knowledge, accuracy in your techniques, and the gerneral improvment needed to get you a pass. Those of you who attend reguarly, ie Thursdays and Sundays are more likely to grade on a more regular basis. You can only get out of Karate that that you put in. Practice needs to be done at home in your own time as well as at our classes inorder to constantly improve your techniques and ability. In order to pass a grading or even be conidered for a grading. As we have mentioned the Thursday classes will be moving to a 7.30pm start time shortly, so for anyone who does not attend every lesson will need to keep checking this page for confirmation when this will be in effect. We have also unfortunately had a regular accurrance of some student turning up late for classes. We ask that everyone who trains please turn up at least 5mins before the start time of the class to avoid any late commers. This is out of respect for your instructors and fellow members. I have now put a link at the top of this page directly to Sensei Frank Johnsons Wado-Ryu Book site, where you can purchase his books. These are the most comprehensive Wado books you will ever find. Sensei is world know, and having trained with Sensei Johnson since around 2002 he is very much someone who I respect and admire within the Wado world.
September 2007 - The Suzuki Course application form can now be downloaded direct from this site on our events page, dates and training tiimes are now posted. You can also see the entire group photo from the August course by clicking here August 2007 - Well last weekend of the 3rd - 5th, myself, Russell, Lyndz, Scott and Sam, along with Andy who came along on the final day, attended Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki's Summer training course at Stratford upon Avon. In one word 'FANTASTIC!'. We had three hours of hard tuition each day and all came away having leant alot. For me this has been one of my main ambitions to train with Sensei Suzuki, and I loved every minute of it. We covered a wide variety of the Wado syllabus from basics, kata, kihons, ohyos, to kneeling defense and sword defense. Personally I cant wait for the next course in February 2008, more details can be found on our events page, including the application form which you can download from this site and accommodation details for the three day event.
June 2007 - The Kata section of this website has now been updated with Rohai, Chinto amd Jitte Kata, with the wrien walkthrough. I still to have to add the drawings to accompany the wakthrough guides for these....these cannot be rushed!April 2007 - The UKKW events for 2007 including an upcomming training day has been added to the events page for the 30th July at Centre Parcs in Nottingham, training under Tony Utting. Myself and Russell went last year to take part and had a great time. I have also updated the Wado Exl section on the events page with prices , master class and competition details. I will post a section on the competition rules within this month.Closer to home, Gradings took place last Sunday for many of our members under the watchful eye of Sensei Frank Johnson, to whom we all owe a big thank you! Weldone to all who passed, especially to two of our members who not only had to learn there own grading paired work by that of each others, not an easy task! Think it proved to all our members that there is alot to be learnt and that the grading standard is now very much higher, which in my mind is alot more benificial to us all. You will only get out that that you put in to your training. Although I have some of our members email addresses please could all members who view this site please send me your email address so that when on the odd occasion the club is closed and no training will be taking place, all our members can be informed, which is especially advisable if you haven't attended the previous lesson when an announcement has been made.March 2007 - Please check out the events page as there is a very special Wado event taking place this year right on our doorstep, WadoExl 2007, Dates are on the events page. This will be a very large get together for all Wado practioners from all over the world to train together under the very best and top Wado Instructors including those who were original students of the founder of Wado-Ryu, Master Hironori Ohtsuka. The best part about it is it will be taking place in Shrewsbury ovewr four days. More on the events page link above. More details will be posted as it becomes available nearer the event. We have upcoming gradings taking place this weekend for some of our students, so good luck to all. The gradings will be assessed by Sensei Frank Johnson, who will be paying a visit to our club. 11 November 2006 - SITE UPDATES - I have update the following pages within the syllabus which now conform to the W.I.K.F syllabus. The three step Kick Blocks are now up also the Ohyo Gumite page is now updated as there was a mistake on my part - It's one thing going through the motions but it's alot harder than you may realise when it comes to writting the combinations down. The events page will be updated later today as I now have news of a couple of upcoming events, both training course and a date for a Wado compition. NOVEMBER 2006 - Well I am very proud to say that we are all now officially affilliated to the UKKW (United Kingdom Karate Do Wado Kai) which also means we are affiliated to Sensei Suzuki's association the WIKF (Wado International Karate Do Federation). This change is going to benefit us as a Wado group no end. Very big thank you to Sensei Dave Allsop (7th Dan) and Tony Utting (4th Dan) who head the UKKW, for coming and doing the 5 hour Wado course on Saturday 28th October. Please ensure you have a good look at this website when you get chance as the whole of the grading syllabus has been revised including all blocks etc to conform to the UKKW and WIKF grading syllabus. Almost every page has been either updated or totally revised. As you may have noticed there are some changes taking place at our club and a major part is that the training sessions are getting harder as we are going to be moving towards a much higher standard all round. There will be more discipline for all our members, for yourselves and towards each other. We will be improving the already high standard of teaching offered at the, club, Myself and Russell will be looking more indepth at the more traditional Wado techniques than we have in the past, which means new things for our members to learn, new blocking techniques, refreshed grading syllabus. We will also be teaching the wado art of knife defence. Which for second Dan gradings is performed with live blades. While Jerome will be continuing to teaching you more in depth self defence, allowing longer for you to get the hang of each technique before moving onto the next, so you will be able to handle yourself in any given situation should the need ever arise no matter what grade you are.Because the grading pass standard will be tighter and higher, everyone will be required to train harder and make time to practice away from the club at home. You can only improve if you are serious about your karate and prepared to put the time and effort into your training. You need to meet certain criteria to pass your gradings - only by giving your all can you achive this! I have updated the FAQ page and the Events page with some upcoming Wado courses. Please check the Events page on a regular basis as more pure Wado courses (day and weekend courses and even summer and winter four and fve day residential courses),competitions will become available to us so they will be posted on the site as soon as they arrive in my mail box. All members will be advised to attend these courses to help you improve your techniques and gain a better understanding in your pursuit of the art of Wado-Ryu karate. Also we ask all our members and those wanting to join to read through the club Ethiquette page, these are rules that are set by the club and must be followed by all who train with us.ADDITIONAL NEWS Sensei Frank Johnsons 2nd Wado-ryu book in out which focuses on all kihons and ohyos, 15 kata of wado-ryu and traditional techniques, the bible for all wado practioners. If anyone finds that their license needs to be renewed, please obtain a renewal form from one of your Instructors.New Members - We are always looking for new adult members to join the club. If you know of anyone who may be interested in learning the art of Wado-Ryu karate then inform them about our club, give them our website address so they can find out more about us, or bring them down to the club when there's a class, in order for them to see for themselves what we do and even have a go and join in. This site will be updated on a monthly basis so please check back regularly. |
