Octoberv 2009
October has been a good month so far. On 4th October Sensei Dave Allsop (UKKW), came over to Shrewsbury to give brown belts up a Wado course and after headed the panel for the Dan grading which took place. All the cadidates passed and gave it there all, So well done to members from Shrewsbury and our club, Steve, Elliot, Phillip, Paul and our own Lyndz for all obtaining 1st Dan, plus Andy and Yvette for gaining 2nd Dan.
We have now changed the starting times for both sessions on a Thursday. The kids class now runs between 7pm and 8pm, followed by the adults session 8pm - 9pm. We are stopping the adults training in the kids class on Thursdays, this is to give the kids our full attention without distractions and plus the limitation to space.
It is asked that the adults arrive 5 - 10 mins prior to THEIR session starting at 8pm and go straight into the adjoining room, thus not interupting the kids class in progress. If you turn up any earlier then 5-10 mins prior to your lesson start time please await in the corridor until the room becomes free as we are not ment to entre before the given times.
Russ and myself are currently putting together a club merchandise list if anyone is interested in purchasing sweatshirts, fleeces, or t-shirts. we will be issuing order forms to all over the following weeks. As always, there is no extra added to the prices, the prices shown are the prices we will be buying the garments at from the suppliers.
Please can eveyone check their licences as I know most of our members are due to renew before the 28th October. These must be renewed in order for you to train at the club.

Please can the adults not turn up too early for there training class and wait outside in the corridor until the kids session has finished and await to be told they can enter the training room for their session that follows. February
2009
First
of all a big congratulations to Lyndz and our fellow Shrewsbury colleagues
Steve, Paul, Elliot and Phillip for all passing their 1st kyu grading
in January, under the watchful eye of Sensei Frank Johnson. I can
vouch that Lyndz especially has put in alot of hard training over the
past year towards this grading and it all paid off with a 1st rate pass!
As
you can see on the left there is now a link for 'Private Lessons'. There
are 4 options available to existing members and those looking to join
our club, so please take a look at what is available especially when you
are approaching your higher gradings from Blue belt up. We have been offering
private 1 - 1 lessons to people approaching the club to join and these
are working out well, and giving new members a starting point before entering
the main group sessions. For existing members these offer a chance to
have a session tailored to what you want to cover, whether this be preparing
for the final stages of your grading and covering certain aspects, or
if you want a refresher or learn more advance areas of kata, Kihon, Ohyo,
knife defences etc. So take a look and if you are interested in any of
the options just email or speak to me or Russell in the lessons, just
be aware these must be pre-booked.
As
always all the money will go back into the club for our members benefit.
On this subject, we have just purchasing jigsaw mats
for the club so at least we can all have a softer landing!!!
It
is also good to see we have a few new members who have recently started
with us, so Emily and brother Lewis, plus Holly, Alex, Cavan, Oliver and Michael, and Sean,
these have all joined the kids classes and in the adults sessions we have
Natalie and John, plus two returning members Martin and Damo.
December 2008 UPDATE
Xmas and New Year are fast approaching so please note that the last training session for 2008 will be on Sunday 21st, then then training session will be on Thursday 8th January 2008 when classes resume as normal for us to work off all the extras we have eaten over the festive period!!!
Also, just so our club members are aware I will also doing private lessons,
one to one or two to one, by prior appointment only which will be arranged
with myself (Chell). For further information please come and see me or
email. These private lessons will be an hour to hour and half long can
cover any aspect of the Wado System you wish. These will be charged at
a higher rate and all money again as always goes back into the club to
cover the clubs running costs.
October
2008 UPDATE by Lyndsey
Welcome to the new look website. Hope you all approve! Chell now has more time to update the site so there are videos and a whole lot of other things being put together.

(Above: Dave, Michelle , Sensei Dave Allsop, Stefan & Matthew after being awarded 1st & 2nd Dan)
Michelle, Dave (Shrewsbury Karate), stefan and matthew all stand proudly in the photo above alongside Sensei Dave Allsop, after a recent Dan grading which took place at the Shrewsbury Sports Village on 3rd October 2008. The grading took place under the watchful eye of Sensei Dave Allsop 7th Dan, and Sensei Frank Johnson 4th Dan. As you can see all achived their goal, Michelle and Dave now hold well deserved 2nd Dan. Both Stefan and Matthew have been awarded cadet level 1st Dan grades. Well done everyone, very well trained. Having watched the grading I can confirm it was a very tough 3 hours for them all.
Following the grading was the first of two masterclasses for WadoExl 2008. This extended from the event the previous year. Sensei's Peter May, Dave Allsop and Kuniaki Sakagamin taught a wide range of Wado students from all over the country on both days, teaching both the more unusual side to the style, close range techniques etc, and also covered kata bunkai. A great time was had by all who attended. We were also glad to see so many of our own club members attend, hopefully we can get a few more to come with us next year in October 2009.
The 3rd day was competition time, which proved to be very popular again and rapidly growing each year. There was a good number of club entries too. Both Andrew Rogers and Stefan did very well in their kumite rounds, Andrew made it to the second round of his category and Stefan fought very well but sadly lost out on taking third place, next year maybe! James and Jake lost out in the first rounds but none the less put up good fights. Dave Breese fought well in his category, unfortunately he was up against black belts but gave them a run for there money.
Michelle entered her very first Kata Competition this year in the form of the Ladies WadoExl Kata cup, she did very well against the other more seasoned Competitors, with an overall score of 42.6 and just loosing out to third place. The winning score was 44 so again, very well done.
