Katas of Wado Ryu

CHINTO

 

The Chinto form follows a straight line and should be executed with powerful techniques. The main characteristic of this Kata the the one - legged stance (Sagiashi - Dachi or Chinto Dachi) occuring repeatedly. This particluar Wado Kata more than any other really puts your balance to the test.

  1. Musubi- Dachi (Heels together).
  2. Yoi (Ready stance. Left leg, then right leg).
  3. Step back with the right leg into Kokutso-Dachi stance. Both feet flat on the floor. Bring both hands up performing double Nukite arms crossing at the wrists and keeping the elbows down. Left hand infront of the right brought up to the left side of the face.
  4. Roll the arms down as in Pinan Godan, arms ending up right above left wrist facing each other.
  5. Strike out with your left arm Chudan level.
  6. Twist at the hips as you puch Gyakuzuki chudan into Tate-Seishan. Kiai.
  7. Twist 360 degrees to your left blocking with your right arm as you twist round.
  8. Block Gedan-Barai in Shiko-Dachi stance.
  9. Turning 90 degrees to your left, raising both arms into X-Block Jodan level.
  10. Lowering the arms and clenching the fists and perform Nidan Geri. Kiai. (Don't rotate the arms as you lower them. Right stays over left wrist).
  11. As you land in left leg stance, perform X-Block. Right arm over left.
  12. Retract the arms to the waist, turn 180 degrees to your right and again perform X-Block, right over left arm.
  13. Turn 180 degrees to the right into Kotutso-Dachi, blocking, closed fists, right Gedan Barai, left hand comes across the chest.
  14. Step through into left leg Kotutso-Dachi stance, this time open hands, block Gedan and right hand comes across the chest.
  15. Step through into migi hadigame. Bring the hands up Jodan level crossing at the forearms, right in front of the left. Palms facing you.
  16. Open the arms, shoulder width, finishing palm facing forward.
  17. Turn left 90 degrees into Shiko-Dachi keeping the arms at the same level as in Move 16. Your open right hand in front of the left. Open our hand as previously so the palms stay facing you.
  18. Slowly drop both arms to your sides and straighten up. Look to your left.
  19. Step out in to Kotutso-Dachi stance, simutanuosly performing left arm Gedan-Barai, and right arm Soto-Uke.
  20. Keeping the arms where they are bring the right foot up to the left.
  21. Turn 180 degrees to the left, pivoting on your left foot..
  22. Step out with the right leg, and simutanuously change the arms.
  23. Keeping the arms where they are bring the left foot up to the right.
  24. Turn 180 degrees to the left, pivoting on your right foot..
  25. Step out with the left leg agian into Kotutso-Dachi, and simutanuously change the arms.
  26. Bring both arms fists up simutanuiously back to your waist, at the same time bring your right foot on the ball of the foot, up to the rear of your left foot, short Gyaku-Nekoashi (reverse cat stance) lowering your body/
  27. Keep the body low as you perform downward X-block.
  28. Bring the right leg forward so feet are shoulder with apart, knees slightly bent. At the same time block two simutanuious Soto-Uke Jodan block with both arms.
  29. Stand up straight slowly. Bring your hands down, fists closed.
  30. Bring the hands up to your hips and prepare for Koteuke (arm block). The same as in Pinan Sandan but in a different stance.
  31. Lower your body and twist to the left. Performing Koteuke.
  32. Twist your body back to the right. Perform Koteuke again to the right.
  33. Turn 180 degrees to the right pivoting on your right foot ending in Neko-Ashi Stance. Perform Sotouke Jodan with both hands simutaniously.
  34. Perform the following three movements at the same time. Raise your left knee up as if you are ready to kick. Right Sotouke Jodan. Left Gedan Barai.
  35. Bring your hands back as in Pinan Yodan, left hand across your body, right hand at your waist level. Keep standing in right leg Sagashi stance.
  36. Perform left Gedan Barai and left Mageri at the same time.
  37. Step through with your right leg and perform Junzuki chudan. Kiai.
  38. Draw back your right foot and have left Sagiashi-Dachi. Perform right Gedan Barai and left Soto-Uke simultaniously with both hands.
  39. Bring your right arm across your body to rest above the left which is droped to the waist as in Pinan Yodan.
  40. Perform Maegeri chudan with the right leg which simutaniously blocking Gedan Barai with the right arm.
  41. Punch Gyakuzuki in right Tate-Seishan stance.
  42. Turn to the left 180 degrees and raise place your left leg against your right calf in right Sagiashi stance. Perform right Soto-uke Jodan and left Gedan Barai at the same time.
  43. Bring your left hand across the body as in move 35 and drop the right hand to the waist.
  44. Perform Maegeri Chudan with the left leg at the same time performing Gedan Barai with the left arm.
  45. Punch right Gyakuzuki Chudan in Tate-Seishan stance.
  46. Turn 180 degrees into Shiko-Dachi stance and block Kake-Uke Jodan(hook block).
  47. Twist into left Empi (Vertical elbow strike) changing to Tate-Seishan stance. The twisting of the body accelerates the empi strike.
  48. Draw back both hands to the left side of your body in preparation for the next move. Right hand should be open palm against the left fist.
  49. Perform upward uraken with the right hand, reinforced by the left hand to the face, thus aiding the 180 degrees turn on right Sagashi stance. Keeping your balance as your left foot comes against the right calf and the hands come to finish in the right side of your body.
  50. Block out Gedan Barai as you kick Maegeri Chudan with the left leg.
  51. Step through into right leg stance and punch Junzuki Chudan. Kiai.
  52. Yame by turning back 180 degrees drawing your left foot into Shizen Hontai.
  53. Musubi-Dachi.
