ABOUT US - TELFORD WADO-RYU KARATE CLUB
Telford Wado-Ryu was founded in July 1984. The Club grew under the instruction of Mike Salesman, one of the young British Lions of the 1980's Karate Team who along side the likes of Vic Charles, Geoff Thompson and Meryvn Ettienne became a highly decorated champion.
Russell Baker one of the original students, together with Jerome Hamilton and Michelle Honeywell, all black belts, now run the club which is affiliated to the UKKW headed by Dave Allsop, and Sensei Tatsuo Suzuki's WIKF.
The club focuses on traditional Wado-Ryu Karate including basic techniques, Kata (patterns), Kumite (sparing) and application of techniques in self defence, traditional Wado knife defence, plus lots more.
The club is very friendly and always welcoming new and returning practioners to Wado.
With the association we are affiliated to we get the chance to train under many high ranking instructors including Sensei Suzuki himself. There is the option of attending training courses abroard including a two week trip to Japan which is offered every three years the next I believe in 2010.
Training Times, Costs & Club Location
We train every Sunday & Thursday at the following times
SUNDAY 10.00AM - 11.00AM CHILDRENS SESSION (AGED 6 - 14)
SUNDAY 11.00AM - 12.30NOON ADULTS ONLY
THURSDAY 19.00 - 20.00 CHILDRENS SESSION ONLY
THURSDAY 20.00 - 21.00 - ADULTS ONLY
IT IS REQUESTED THAT EVERYONE ARRIVES AT LEAST 5 - 10 MINUITE PRIOR TO THE CLASS STARTING, THIS WAY THERE ARE NO INTERRUPTIONS DURING THE CLASSES. IT ALSO SHOWS GOOD MANNERS, WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT IN THE MARTIAL ARTS, ALONG WITH RESPECT TO YOUR INSTRUCTORS AND FELLOW MEMBERS.
The prices below are payable at the start of each training session you attend;
CHILDREN / JUNIORS (AGED 6 - 16YEARS) @ 2.50GBP
TEENAGERS (AGED 16 - 18 YEARS STILL IN FULL TIME EDUCATION) @ 3.00GBP
ADULTS (18 YEARS +) @ 4.00GBP
WE ARE A NON PROFIT MAKING CLUB, NON OF THE INSTRUCTORS TAKE ANYTHING FROM THE CLUB AS WE ARE ONE OF FEW CLUBS THAT TEACH WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT BECAUSE OF OUR LOVE FOR THE ART.
THE MONEY COLLECTED IN IS TO COVER THE RENT OF THE ROMMS AT GASTON PAYNE. IF THERE IS ANYTHING LEFT OVER IT IS PUT TOWARDS TRAING AIDS FOR OUR STUDENTS AT THE CLUB.
